GRACE

Image You can choose how to live; what kind of disposition you will have, what kind of attitude, demeanor and actions. You can support people or ignore them or practice behaviors that may hurt them. The choice is yours to make.

You can live in a state of grace behaving the best way possible for you. That is putting your best foot forward so to speak. Being kind, understanding and patient. Giving to those in need. Staying calm during a crisis or emergency. Being thankful and grateful for what you do have.

This state of mind, being and body may take practice or work. Your natural inclination may not always instantly be how to take the “road less traveled”. You may have times in your life where you want to shout, scream, and rail against the circumstances. But after you do all of that, what choices will you make? How will them impact others? Who will your actions benefit? What kind of a person do you want to be known as?  What traits are important to you?

Do you admire people who seem to live in a state of grace who appear to handle everything effectively, quickly with thoughts and care for all concerned. Do you let your natural poise and calm take over in a difficult situation or do you become overly concerned with yourself and your own needs to the detriment of others involved?

Or, on the other hand, do you take extraordinary care of everyone else, pets and plants included, and save the last ounces of your strength and energy for yourself.

“I do not at all understand the mystery of grace – only that it meets us where we are but does not leave us where it found us.”             -Anne Lamott

That is not living in kindness or grace for yourself. Possibly there is a way to take care of others and yourself effectively and not lose that calm or peace you practice.

If you are having difficulty achieving this state of mind, you may need to stop going it alone and ask for some help or guidance on the matter. For some it isn’t easy to live in a state of grace all the time. But it can be learned and it can be improved upon each day. The reward is a more peaceful, nurturing and impactful existence.

“Grace is available for each of us every day – our spiritual daily bread – but we’ve got to remember to ask for it with a grateful heart and not worry about whether there will be enough for tomorrow.”     -Sarah Ban Breathnach quotes
